The Macedonian Ecological Society is the oldest ecological association in the Republic of Macedonia, and it represents an organization uniting the ecologists of Macedonia. Established in 1972 as a member of the Society of ecologists of Yugoslavia with a purpose to unite the ecologists of Macedonia for a better and more effective tackling the problems in the ecology and environment protection. MES gathers about 150 active members from different areas of ecology and environment protection as fundamental ecology (terrestrial ecology and hydro ecology), agroecology, environmental ecology, contamination, monitoring, ecology education etc. The members of MES are scientists and specialists in the area of ecology and environment protection. Many of them are employed at the universities in Skopje and Bitola. The others work in different institutions in Macedonia. In all of those areas, MES had organised many projects, congress events and open discussions. Since 1992 we publish twice a year the scientific magazine Ecology and protection of the environment, containing articles of Macedonian, as well as international authors.
