The Macedonian Ecological Society was established in 1972 in order to unite ecologists and environmental workers from Macedonia for better and more effective resolving of the ecological and environmental problems and nature conservation. MES is non-governmental organization with about 100 active members - experts working in many areas of ecology and protection of the environment such as fundamental ecology (terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems), biodiversity, agroecology, landscape ecology, pollution, monitoring, measures for the protection of environment, ecological education etc. The activity of MES is realized through organization of congresses, symposia, workshops and different field projects (applied and scientific). MES publishes a journal called "Ecology and Protection of the Environment" since 1992. It also publishes special issues resulted from workshops or symposia, dedicated to a certain ecological problem.
Presidency MES is led by its Presidency consisted of 9 members. Presidency was elected for 2-years period on the Annual Assembly held on 23.03.2007.
