THE BIRDS OF MACEDONIA - SHORT FIELD GUIDE

The Macedonian Ecological Society published the book "The Birds of Macedonia - short field guide" (in Macedonian language), purposed mostly for beginners, and all other who want to start birdwatching. The book shortly describes 136 birds, a selection from over 300 species that can be found in Macedonia.

the book includes original illustrations of birds, showing, very often, the differences between the sexes, age or the different forms. The illustrations are followed with short text which gives guidelines for easier identification of the species (size and short description, in some cases also behavior) and most common habitats where they can be found.

The book includes short chapter how birdwatching is done, which should help to all beginners in these hobby.

The guide is not intended to be professional literature, but it makes possible familiarization with the most common birds in Macedonia, their breeding and seasonal status, as well as their habitats.

The book "The Birds of Macedonia - short field guide" was produced as a part of the project "Strengthening the capacity of NGOs to create and use Wild Bird Indicators as tools to affect policy change for the achievement of the Convention of Biological Diversity and European Union targets to halt biodiversity loss by 2010", financed by The Small Grants Programme of the Global Environmental Fund, implemented by UNDP (United Nations Development Programme).
